ADA 35th Anniversary Pop-Up Exhibits

Disability Network Mid-Michigan and Local Libraries Celebrate ADA 35th Anniversary with Pop-Up Exhibit

This July, in celebration of the 35th Anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), DNMM is partnering with Hoyt Library in Saginaw, Alice and Jack Wirt Public Library in Bay City, and Pere Marquette District Library in Clare to host a free Pop-Up ADA Pride Exhibit highlighting disability rights, advocacy, and inclusion.

The ADA Pride Pop-Up Exhibit will be on display at all three libraries throughout July. It will feature powerful photos, historical highlights, and storytelling elements that highlight the disability rights movement and the ongoing advocacy efforts nationwide. This collaboration invites the Saginaw, Bay City & Clare communities to reflect on the progress we've made and how we can continue to make our communities more inclusive.

Children’s Story Time

  • Every Saturday in July from 2:00-2:45 pm at Hoyt Library
  • Story and activities.
  • Each child receives their own book, the book will be different each week.

Adult Book Club

Pop-up exhibits are currently at Hoyt Library in Saginaw, Alice and Jack Wirt Public Library in Bay City, and Pere Marquette District Library in Clare and will be up the entire month of July.

This exhibit is presented in collaboration with the Michigan Statewide Independent Living Council (MiSILC) as part of a statewide Disability Pride Month initiative. To learn more about the ADA Pride initiative, visit www.misilc.org/ada-2025

“Libraries are more than books—they are essential community spaces that foster understanding, inclusion, and connection. This exhibit and celebration help demystify disability and remind us that accessibility is not just a legal obligation, but a shared community value. Partnering with our local libraries to bring this celebration to life is a meaningful step in raising awareness and pride around disability history, and we’re excited to engage with the community in Saginaw and honor the ADA’s legacy together.”

Kelly PeLong, Executive Director of Disability Network Mid-Michigan.
